SPECIAL EVENT! – October 10th | 6:30pm | Town of Davidson Board Room | Best Second Half with local author, Lloyd Reeb, who will share an inspiring blend of true stories and best practices to help baby boomers live their best “second half.” These ideas will help you to pause, take stock and start living a second half of meaning, joy and greater impact in our community.

Join us to discover the possibility of finding fulfillment in your second half, one that may be even more enriching and exciting than the first! Attendees will be gifted a copy of the best selling book, Halftime. Refreshments will be served.

Save the Date!  . . .  Theater Outing: Davidson Community Players; Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol: Sunday, December 15th at 7 pm. Cost is $18.24 per person. Come Learn to Shag Dance and Line Dance With Us!: Friday, October 11th, 6:00 – 8:30pm at Balanced Body Solutions. Join us at our community partner’s event for their FIRST Shag Dance/Line Dance Party! Whether you have shagged danced for many years or never tried, this dance party is for YOU! No dance partner is needed as we will also incorporate a few Line Dances in the mix. Instruction will be provided for various dances throughout the evening.  It is sure to be a night of fun!

WDAV Community Partner Event – Small Batch Concert Series: Tuesday, October 15th – Doors Open: 4 p.m. and Music Begins: 5:30 p.m. (seating is limited) location is The Hurt Hub at Davidson College, 210 Delburg Street, Davidson, NC: Join our community partner, WDAV for their Small Batch concert celebrating, Concíerto. This ground-breaking program is turning 10! Oskar Espina Ruiz and Friends will perform a program filled with a diverse program of works by Latin American composers, from beloved Piazzolla and Villa-Lobos to groundbreaking innovators such as Alfonso Fuentes, and Orlando Jacinto García. The concert is FREE!

Concíerto, the first and only program of its kind, features music performed or composed by Latin American and Spanish musicians, and is presented in Spanish and in English. Concíerto is carried by more than 45 stations around the U.S. and Puerto Rico. It airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on 89.9 WDAV and wdav.org.

The Davidson College Chorale & Davidson Singers:  October 25th
5:30 – 7:00 PM at Davidson College Presbyterian Church Sanctuary. This is the College’s first choral concert of the season. This special performance for friends and family highlights some of the vibrant and challenging repertoires the ensembles are performing this year. Where Are the Wild Birds? Wednesday, October 9th, 1:00 – 2:00 pm. The staff of Wild Birds Unlimited in Huntersville will be here to discuss the types of wild birds we have in this area. They will also provide information on the best ways to attract certain birds to your backyard, what feeders are best for what birds, how best to store birdseed, etc. There will also be time for you to have your bird questions answered. Please join us for this informative and “flighty” workshop!​

An Exploration of Balance, the Vestibular System, and Vertigo
Wednesday, October 16th at 1:30 PM – 2:30pm. This workshop will teach the foundational science of the systems that contribute to balance, with emphasis on the vestibular system including the common causes and treatment of vertigo. Attendees will leave with both the scientific and practical knowledge to start improving balance with exercises you can do at home, whether your goal is to improve performance with physical activity or to decrease the risk of falls in the long term. About the Presenter: Alex Reiley, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Alex specializes in the treatment of balance impairment and vertigo at Saylor Physical Therapy in Cornelius. Alex is a published author in the field of dizziness and vertigo. He earned his doctorate from Duke University and his bachelor’s from UC Berkeley.

Understanding Functional Medicine: Thursday, October 24th, 2:00 – 3:00pm. This is a class designed to look deeper into the understanding of our bodies. Bethany Sprague, FNP is a Functional & Integrative Medicine Practitioner who teaches the wisdom of our ancestors adapted into the modern world utilizing the Pillars of Health. The bottom line is functional medicine is a medical specialty that uses detective skills to find why people have symptoms, instead of just giving a diagnosis without great options for treatment. Participants at this talk will have a better understanding of why making tough lifestyle decisions (stuff your grandma told you) are key in designing wellness in their lives.

DIY: Create an Owl: Friday, October 25th, 1:30 – 3pm. In this DIY Workshop, we will be making adorable Owls out of pieces of fabric. They make a great decorative piece for your home or your person. So, if you would like to attach your Owl to a pillow, footstool, t-shirt, etc. please bring that item with you. Also, if you have pieces of scrap fabric at home, please bring those with you, as well. About Crys:  Crys is the owner of Dancing Moon Farms and Apothecary. She is a mother, wife, dog rescuer, Pilates instructor, and movement educator, designer, herbalist, and mini farmer. Crys is known for her creativity and has several hand-made Owls around her home.
